Himizu 2011

After the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, 14-year-old Sumida Yuichi struggles to lead a normal life. Running his parents’ rental boat business by a lake, he faces neglect from his mother, who leaves him for other men, and a father who only seeks money. Classmate Chazawa Keiko, also dealing with a troubled home life, develops a crush on Yuichi and tries to befriend him despite his harsh treatment. When the yakuza demand 6 million yen to cover his father’s debt, Yuichi, already devastated by his family’s abandonment and abuse, reaches a breaking point as a series of events disrupt his world.
