Golgo 13 1971

Golgo 13 is a manga by Takao Saito that was first published in 1968. While the manga’s most popular anime adaptation is the 1984 movie Golgo 13: The Professional, an earlier anime TV series was produced in 1971 and seems to have gone almost completely undocumented since then, being referred to as a “phantom anime” by fans. According to the Japanese Wikipedia page, the anime aired on TBS from April to July 1971, and was seemingly forgotten about until this year, where it will reair on television for the first time in 52 years.

According to this Crunchyroll article, the anime will be rebroadcast on BS-TBS from December 10-17 under the name Golgo 13 Selection. The anime was produced with a technique known as “scale animation”, and is apparently closer to a motion comic with voice acting rather than a standard animated work. This BS-TBS webpage shows several screenshots from the show, as well as an episode listing showing when they’ll be aired.
